It’s all very well closing the ticket office as long as the ticket machine is always working. What do you do if it’s not? Can you board the train without a ticket and pay the guard? What if there isn’t a guard? Will you be fined or thrown off the train for not having a ticket?
Sometimes the ticket machine is sited in a position where at certain times of the day when the sun is shining directly onto it you can barely read what it says.
Who’s going to be on hand to help older people or disabled people get on or off the train?
Older people sometimes have a problem using automated machines?
There’s also the question of personal security for people on their own on the platform after dark/in the winter.
If there’s a lift what happens if someone gets stuck in it?

I do not agree with closing the ticket offices . They are a valuable & very helpful & important part of travel . The staff at our local station office are always brilliant . I would not want to be without them .
